For Multi Strand Crochet, Wind a Center-Pull Ball.Have you seen the c2c graphghan that Sarah from Repeat Crafter Me did? That might be an easier way of doing it especially since you don’t have a ridiculous amount of different colours. :)Pattern attributes and techniques include: Colorwork, Long Sleeve, Loose Fit, Raglan, Seamless, Top-Down. Light yarn (For this project, I used double pull of Indophil yarn, a type of multi-strand acrylic yarn available in my country.) 6.5 mm hook Tapestry needleEdit: I did a quick trial with your picture, it doesn’t seem to share those you’d have to plug in your info yourself, but set it to crochet, tell it to use the maximum allowed stitches, and that you want it black and white, and it spits out a pretty decent chart for you.It was my first (and probably last tbh) attempt at a graphghan. Here are 2 squares that I found. This blanket was the most annoying thing I’ve ever made. There are some similar graphs on a Google image search for “love crochet graphghan” that might get you close enough to your original blanket that are free, or more suited to your comfortable price range. I love this website for calculating how much yarn I’ll need. The Ravelry link for this blanket that is available from the link I gave you tells how many yards used, though not how many per color. For sizing I changed the width to the width of my blanket in this case 200 or 250… can’t remember. For the colors it’s more personal preference and what you feel comfortable doing. Not sure if it works for everyone but I do know that at least having something to work from would’ve helped me, so I hope this helps you!I’d never done C2C before, nor done a CAL, nor attempted a graphghan, but when I saw Two Hearts Crochet’s Whovian CAL I knew I had to try it out. And voila! That’s my process. Then with those I went in and got rid of the excess colors to smooth the pattern out into just the two colors I was going to use. After I got the pattern set with all the preset stuff I went back in and picked the two colors that showed up more aka the ‘best’ blue and white. You’re familiar with giant granny squares, yes? You can do pretty much the same thing but as a rectangle so that it’s better for laps.I also really like the U Scrap Afghan. Although I think the skulls kind of make the blanket.Sorry you haven’t gotten any responses yet!Granny rectangle. You can leave the row of skulls off and it’s still really cool. Specifically to your question, here is the video where he teaches changing colors in your work.A really impressive stripey graphghan. Just as a sort-of-related example, I made this C2C shawl for my daughter using sport weight yarn & a 6mm hook, and it’s not overly holey at all.I haven’t designed one yet myself, but I would think it’s the same as a regular graphghan. I didn’t have any luck finding an existing graph for you to use, but I did find this free chart maker, though you can certainly make a chart freehand with graph paper–it looks like 1 square on paper equals 1 cluster in C2C.Also, to answer your question I stupidly skipped past: the norm seems to be a smaller-than-normal hook for C2C afghans, but if you use a size or two bigger than called for on the label of your yarn, it will make things a bit quicker and lighter, and shouldn’t make a significant difference in holes. It’s a pretty quick pattern if you use about a J-hook.You can make a corner-to-corner graphghan too. Just use nicer colors mine truly used scraps. Jimmy swaggart music appThat’s what I’ve done with two of my afghans ( 1, 2). Any ideas? What did you stitch the original graphghan in? If it was single crochet, I think a border of sc around would look really nice. I’ve done it on a c2c scarf but I can’t say that it wasn’t noticeable if you were looking for it. They use myphotostiches.Com I believe. The only thing I can’t figure out is how to carry yarn. Crochet Crowd has a decent tutorial on this. There are many programs out there that will turn an image into a graph. ![]() Though I think I would still do the crawfish as applique. You could also do a C2C graphghan, stopping at the halfway point to create a triangle instead of a full square, but it won’t offer much detail unless you move down to a finer weight yarn. From the baby finger angle, you could use a really heavy weight yarn (or multistrand lighter weights) so that the strands themselves are thicker and harder to wrap up in.For an integrated look, I would probably go with something like a mandala shawl (just google for ideas) so you have the circle in the middle, you could spiral the colors with some interesting color changes to help create the spiral. If you poke around here there are some good ideas, but you could also do smaller doilies that you like and put them together for free form. Not only do you have to do graphing and math to get it to work out on paper but then you have to pay the fuck attention or you will miss stitches.I also found this which is basically a “make your own mandala” method, which doesn’t give much instruction but may give some inspiration. In that vein, you could also do more free-form crochet. Currently using red/black/white Woolike (ultra fine) from Loops & Threads, and a Clover hook at size 2.75 mm / size C.Okay, take 2 - I was going to suggest the Sophie/Tides of change route but someone beat me to it.My 2nd suggestion would be writing up a circular intarsia/graphghan pattern. Depending on the detail you want, you may also want to do a finer yarn, even crochet thread. For random crawfish applique ideas, you could modify a lobster or crab applique to work. You could do multiple strands to help blend colors together. Either would allow both hurricane and crawfish though. For a straight applique approach, I would do the hurricane as a simple spiral, this has pretty good tutorials on it for freehanding. If you wanted to do double crochet, I would do 2 double crochet per pixel, but you would lose some detail unless you went finer yarn again. Same with a tapestry type approach, if you do sc you could plot it on on something like stitchfiddle and do a 1 square for 1 stitch or 1 square to get quite a lot of detail.
